Suspect a broken spring? Stop using the door.

Do not attempt to lift or repair it. Keep people and vehicles clear, and call for help.

What's happening

A small part.
A lot of weight.

The springs counterbalance the door. The opener moves it. When a spring breaks, that balance is lost.

What you might notice

  • A loud bang, then a door that won't lift.

A spring can break with a sharp noise. The door may stop moving normally afterward.

  • A visible gap in the coil.

A broken torsion spring can separate above the door. Stay clear; you do not need to touch it to request service.

  • A heavy, uneven or struggling door.

The opener may strain or stop. Loose cables or a crooked door also need inspection.

Symptoms are a starting point. We inspect the whole system before recommending the repair.

We show our work

Sized for your door.
Not just the old spring.

The old spring may not have been the right fit. We start with the door's weight, dimensions and use, then explain the replacement options.

Door weightDimensionsCycle rating

Why springs wear

Open + close = one cycle.

Different springs are rated for different numbers of cycles. Daily use matters; a cycle rating is not a calendar guarantee.

  1. 01

    We weigh the door.

We start with the weight your spring needs to support, rather than assuming the old spring was right.

  2. 02

    We measure the door.

Width and height help determine the spring specification. Similar-looking doors can need different springs.

  3. 03

    You choose the cycle rating.

10,000 cycles is one example. We explain the available ratings, including higher-cycle options, and how they suit your daily use.

  4. 04

    We calculate the right spring.

Weight, dimensions and cycle rating give us the specification for your door.

  5. 05

    We replace both and test.

On a two-spring system, we replace both springs, then balance the door and check its operation.

There's almost always more than one way to fix a door. We'll show you all of them.

One customer's experience with True Lift.

The spring on our garage broke, and Chris came out to fix it late in the evening. I highly recommend True Lift; they are efficient and fairly priced.
